The story that launched the following posts: Ex-Aide Says He’s Lost Faith in Bush
Think Progress: White House Claims Dowd Is Too Emotional, Turned On Bush Because Of “Personal Turmoil”
…Dowd “said he hoped in part that by coming forward he would be able to get a message through to a presidential inner sanctum that he views as increasingly isolated.” This morning on CBS, White House Counselor Dan Bartlett crushed any such hopes that Bush’s inner circle would heed the advice of a once-trusted aide. Instead, as it has done frequently in the past, the White House engaged in a counteroffensive, assailing the character of the person sounding the alarms.
Chumley at Daily Kos: Here’s how Matthew Dowd can make REAL amends
…Here’s what the country needs to know, and I’m guessing you know it already: what secret backchannels has this adminstration used for its illegal, unethical activities? What can you tell us about www.gwb43.com? Do you have any correspondence of interest on the USA firings — or more importantly, the selling of the Iraq war with false information?
I’m guessing you know a lot. I’m guessing you have documents to prove it.
So make amends. REAL amends. Do what’s right for your country, and your son…
Make a real moral choice, Mr. Dowd. Show this country that your sorrow is real, by helping undo the damage caused by George W. Bush and his administration.
Cliff Schecter: Cry Me A River, Schmuck
This asshole foisted a disaster on the American public,–and mind you we deserve much of the blame for voting for him (some of us less so than others
)–and then gleefully accepted a position as his “chief campaign strategist” in 2004.
Now he wants forgiveness.
Let me ponder my answer. Ok, here is it: GO TO HELL, Matthew.
Digby: “Base” Motivation
…let’s just say that I’m a little bit skeptical about Matthew Dowd’s sincerity about anything. He went from being a Democrat in 1999 to jump on the Bush train, advised him that he pretty much didn’t need to bother trying to answer to anybody but his rabid wingnut base and now that it’s all fallen apart he’s boo-hooing to the NY Times about he feels betrayed.
Pachacutec at The Huffington Post: Matthew Dowd’s Personal Irresponsibility
…The people you joined up with have had the very agenda you abetted since at least the days of Nixon, and unless we rid our public life of them, they’ll be back again. You were an insider. Start talking about what you know. Grab your knife and start the stabbing. That’s how you can restore some balance, wanker…
My take? Use the fucker, but keep him on a leash.
