The Cult of Barack Obama just can’t stand to see Clinton succeed in Indiana. Sam Stein, whose Huffington Obama Post pieces show him to be in the tank for Obama, is now trying to cast doubt on Clinton’s victory in Indiana:
As part his “Operation Chaos” strategy, talk radio host Rush Limbaugh urged Republicans and independents to vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton to keep the Democratic presidential race unsettled for as long as possible.
Sam Stein looks at the Indiana exit polls and thinks it may have worked.
“Thirty-six percent of primary voters said that Clinton does not share their values. And yet, among that total, one out of every five (20 percent) nevertheless voted for her in the Indiana election. Moreover, of the 10 percent of Hoosiers who said “neither candidate” shared their values, 75 percent cast their ballots for Clinton.”
This is the kind of breathless speculation that those desperate to tear Clinton down frequently engage in. If you read all of Stein’s piece, however, you might notice something: He cites no source for the numbers he’s bandying about.
The numbers are allegedly based on “a sampling of some key exit poll information.” What sampling? What “key information?” Compiled by whom? Analyzed by whom? What is her, his, or their qualification for such compilation and analysis?
Stein apparently couldn’t be bothered to back up his contentions. Or hide how deeply in the tank he is for Obama. And the worst part?
The media is going to pick this crap up and smear it all over the place, sullying both Clinton and Obama.
Way to give drug addict Rush Limbaugh a fix of glee, Obama supporters.
Update 05/6/08, 8:40 PM:
Via Avedon Carol, I see the genesis of the meme: It was started on an Air America radio show co-hosted by David Bender and Rachel Maddow. Bender demanded that Clinton blast “Operation Chaos” participants. Avedon’s take?
…[I]f Hillary should denounce Republicans who are voting for her even though they intend to vote for the Republican nominee in the fall, does that mean Obama should also denounce the Republicans who, earlier in the race, admitted voting for Obama although they intend to vote for the Republican nominee in November? Or is this really about something else?
Meanwhile, Clinton lays out what her Indiana victory — and Obama’s Indiana loss — really mean. Take note, superdelegates.
Update 05/7/08, 1:11 AM:
Look what I found courtesy of Google Reader: “Did Limbaugh Swing Texas For Clinton?” Per the Politico’s Ben Smith, right-winger David Weigel of Reason Magazine started the narrative that every time Clinton wins, it should be implied that she didn’t really win based on her skills, she won because white Republicans are afraid of an Obama vs. McCain match.
No sexism there, huh?
